Do you need a taxi? Think twice before dialing your usual number as you can now choose between non-green, green or greener taxis…

The company already has a fleet of 250 hybrid and biodiesel-fuelled vehicles. Today, it welcomes two new vehicles with absolutely zero carbon emissions: the fully electric Renault Fluence Z.E. cars. These are the electric version of the Renault Fluence compact executive sedan, and are part of the Renault Z.E. program, i.e. the Zero Emission all-electric car program.

According to Greentomatocars, this will make them 'the first private hire company to offer a fully electric solution to its clients in London', and Renault Fluence Z.E. the very first EVs on the market available for private taxi and minicab hire. And this is just the beginning. The company plans to add a range of additional zero emissions cars throughout the year. Other models from Renault will include Kangoo Van Z.E., a commercial vehicle, Twizy, a small urban 2-seater and Zoe, a bigger 5-seat supermini.

According to the company, the green aspect of the cars does not make a difference to the passengers when it comes to comfort as they are all comfy and spacious. But as the cars run on lithium-ion batteries - the capacity of which is 22 kW-h - they will be used for short travels such as going between home and office to allow batteries to stay within their daily mileage limits.

The cars will be able to re-charge at some of London's public electric charging points or at the private ones of some of the company's clients, or at the company's itself. As Greentomatocars does not charge big extras for the green plus, users can have healthier options for the environment at roughly the same prices.

Greentomatocars' commitment to clean technology is highlighted by the fact that it is involved in a range of green activities such as energy-saving projects, getting office supplies from environmentally-friendly sources and even 'double offsetting' inevitable carbon emissions by planting trees. And now, a simple telephone call can allow each one of us to help the environment as well…
