Created in 2009 and produced by Italian manufacturing company Tazzari Group, Tazzari ZERO is a 100% electric car, all about having zero atmospheric emissions and zero negative environmental impact. Costing about 20,000 Euros, the 2-seater car is about 113 inches long, 61 inches wide and 56 inches tall and represents, for the company, ‘the world’s first electric urban sports vehicle.’
What characterizes it from other EVs is its lighter weight than other technologies seen so far such as Lead or Nickel. This is highly crucial since EVs’ performance is substantially based on their weight. ZERO, weighting about 1,195 lb, is powered with Lithium, the lightest metal in the world. Fully-charged lithium-ion batteries run a distance of 88 miles, recharging is done with an electric socket and their average life lasts about 50,000 miles. Also, by using recyclable materials such as aluminum casting chassis and regenerating the lithium batteries upon termination, ZERO is meant to be entirely eco-friendly while efficient.
According to some who did try the car, it is no that comfortable. Perhaps needing mental adjustment rather than physical, ZERO is, at first glance, perfectly in harmony with an urban background both in style and in function. But with a maximum speed of 56 MPH and a small body, it might feel rather slow and claustrophobic inside. Yet again, as Maninno, responsible for ZERO’s distribution in America said, ‘this is a new way of driving, thinking and looking at transportation.’
EVs gained much interest in the 70s and 80s, which virtually just died only to reappear at the turn of the 21st century. With disruptions in oil supply, increasing oil prices, mounting pollution and global warming, EVs are meant to reduce all those worries. Also, their expensiveness is counterbalanced by their running costs which are said to be 90% less than conventional cars. The lack of infrastructure to recharge electric cars within cities however has been the main impediment to their adoption.
ZERO was created in Imola, not far from where Ferrari and Lamborghini were created, and seeks to join the army of car revolutionaries, but the rest is left to us to make it real or not…
