The media is full of doom and gloom at the moment with a long queue of people desperate to run the country down. I get a little tired of hearing about it as I'm sure we all do, so today some brighter news.
This morning BMW announced that it is to invest a further £250 million in its British Mini plants. This is on top of the £500 million already announced. The investment is to be in three UK factories in Oxford, Swindon and Birmingham bringing much needed stability to the somewhat beleaguered manufacturing sector. The announcement was made during a visit to MINI Plant Oxford by Business Secretary, Dr Vince Cable and Harald Krueger, Member of the Board of Management BMW Group, on the day when the Olympic Torch Relay will visit the plant.
BMW has big plans for the small car with big increases in production volumes planned as the model line up grows. Minis are exported from the UK to 100 different countries so it is fair to say that it has been a raging British Manufacturing success story.
Now you don't hear that every day!
