One of the most glamorous soirees to celebrate the British Grand Prix will take place 80 miles south Silverstone - precisely, on the banks of the river Thames in Fulham on the 5th of July.
West London's top venue, the Hurlingham Club, has announced it will host once again a lavish black tie party coinciding with the British Formula One championships. It will be the second occasion since it made a successful debut in 2010.
The event will be held in support of the charity CLIC Sargent which is the UK's leading organisation for children with cancer. It provides support during treatment in hospital and at home, as well as assistance to bereaved families.
The club promises to offer a night full of celebrities in a gala consisting of a champagne reception and a three course dinner. There will be also an exhibit of F1 cars throughout the different ages of the sport and live music by top artists and DJs.
The 2012 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix will take place at Silverstone on the weekend of the 6th - 8th of July. UK drivers Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Paul di Resta will hopefully be at the top of their game to impress fans at their home race. With the Silverstone podium as their ultimate goal, the race will at least be intense.
Hamilton and Button didn't manage a champagne celebration on the podium at last year's British Grand Prix edition, which was won by Fernando Alonso. Despite his fourth position, Hamilton wanted to praise the British public: "I got out of the car and waved to the crowd because they were phenomenal this weekend, absolutely phenomenal. By far the best race in terms of fans I have seen," he said.
Silverstone's first event took place on October 2nd 1948 and the winner of this inaugural race was Luigi Villoresi. Driving a Maserati, the Italian racer recorded an average speed of 72 mph, quite a way from today's typical velocity of 140mph.
